Reviews for the Graham Bonnet book The Story Behind The Shades continue to arrive, although the latest two are in German from Rock Hard Magazine and Rocks.
“Featuring uncountable never before seen photographs “The Story Behind The Shades”, the biography of one of the greatest living hard rock singers of all time, grabs the reader from the first to the very last page. Essential reading. 176 pages full of information. Author Steve Wright tells the story of ex Rainbow singer Graham Bonnet with total dedication, zeal and almost fanzine-like attention to detail…”
Still if you are better at languages than I ever was, you can read more (and of course the English language reviews!) on the review page. Thanks to Matthias Penzel for sending me the scan and John Tucker for the bit of translation.
“As is the case with every single book from Easy On The Eye publishing, the quality is incomparable, Graham Bonnet – The Story Behind The Shades is no exception…” Lovely review from one of the biggest Greek rock music sites (rockpages.gr) which can be read in full on our review page. It’s so good when people really get what you’re trying to achieve.
The Graham Bonnet book is now in stock. We will begin mailing out next week once we have got all the stock shelved, counted and checked. It does look excellent though, and any fans of the singer should be pleased that he has been served so well by author Steve Wright and also by our design team. Everyone who has placed a pre-order will be emailed with an update next week and you can still do this for the next few days and get the discounted rate (or the special signed edition which is mail-order only.).
The delivery itself was huge fun; our office is down a narrow lane and we warn all delivery companies about this. So when the stock turned up on a full size continental articulated truck at rush hour last night it posed a few problems; there was the stock, all nicely palletised… but with no tail lift, or pallet trolley! The driver pretended not to speak English, opened the back doors for us, shrugged, got back in his cab and went to sleep. It took the pair of us about an hour to pull the pallet apart, unload the books onto one of our own pallets at the side of a busy road, then into the boot of our car, a drive round to the storage area under the office and unload; repeat six times! The joys of running your own business. We sneaked off to a local country inn for dinner, and figured we’d earned it!
We can now take pre-orders for Graham Bonnet – The Story Behind The Shades.

The Graham Bonnet biography is in the final stages we’re glad to say. Simon was busy adding nifty design touches to the layout last week: “It’s nice to be able to add a bit of extra interest to the design. Until the other week we had to be careful as the content was still subject to change, but now it’s just about fixed, I can start to sharpen the pages up – indeed actually generate the left and right page numbering for the first time. This took two days to sort out, as I really wanted to have each new chapter start on a right-hand side. One feature of the Easy book is the mass of photos and memorabilia throughout, which does create extra problems trying to match them to the text, but I really dislike those biographies which just stuff the photos into a block.”
We had a meet up with Graham and his manager backstage at the show in Manchester last weekend (they both refer to the book as The Dead Sea Scrolls, it having taken a good bit longer to finish than expected!), and watched the soundcheck. Graham was also interviewed about the book and his new album by Jon Kirkman there. We will go live with pre-orders very soon, and details will be sent to subscribers to the newsletter first.
Just to let people know we have finally got to the end of the last chapter of the Graham Bonnet biography layout. We have overshot the page count by a bit, but are meeting up with the author in a couple of days to run through the pages one more time, so will hopefully be able to squeeze everything in. Inevitably new pictures are still arriving but we have to draw a line somewhere! There are a few photographs which now have to be cleared and licensed and then we can begin to prepare the artwork files for print.
For anyone who has only recently subscribed for the Graham Bonnet biography newsletters, we have added the older ones to the site in PDF format so you can read through and catch up if you wish. Keep in mind some of the links may now be out of date and some of the information might have also been updated. The latest newsletter will go out this week, so make sure you subscribe if you want to get that.
